Education and Dental Degree
Dr. Abdou grew up in Brooklyn, New York. He attended Hunter College, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in biochemistry with honors.
He then attended the New York University College of Dentistry, where he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree.
General Practice Residency and Surgical Internship
Following dental school, Dr. Abdou completed a one-year general practice residency at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center in Brooklyn. It was during this hospital-based program that his interest in surgery developed.
Dr. Abdou began his specialty training with a one-year oral and maxillofacial surgery internship at NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi in the Bronx.
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency
Dr. Abdou completed a four-year oral and maxillofacial surgery residency through the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix.
His comprehensive surgical education included training in anesthesia, dentoalveolar surgery, facial trauma, maxillofacial pathology, congenital and acquired facial conditions, corrective jaw surgery, bone grafting, and dental implant placement.
Pediatric Maxillofacial Surgery Fellowship
After completing his residency, Dr. Abdou pursued an additional one-year fellowship in pediatric maxillofacial surgery at The Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne in Australia.
During his fellowship, he received extensive training in the treatment of congenital facial differences and neonatal and pediatric maxillofacial pathology. This advanced experience prepared him to care for children and adults with complex facial and jaw conditions.
