Tips for a Speedy Recovery After Wisdom Teeth Removal
Wisdom teeth removal can be uncomfortable to some degree; however, the amount of pain varies from person to person. Below are a few things to keep in mind after wisdom teeth removal for a successful recovery.
- Rest. Plan on taking it easy the first 24-48 hours after surgery. Keeping your head and shoulders elevated during this time can also reduce swelling. Avoid any strenuous activity for at least a week.
- Diet. Eating and drinking after surgery to help your body heal is essential. However, it is best to eat soft after surgery. Foods like, soup, Jell-O, pudding, apple sauce, and ice cream are best to start with. Once you begin to feel more comfortable foods like pasta, scrambled eggs, and fish are good to have.
- Cold Compress. Applying a cold compress to your face for the first 24-48 will help minimize swelling, bruising, and discomfort. We will send you home with a cold compress to help with these things.
- Take Pain Medication. Take pain medication as prescribed by your oral surgeon.
Recovery from wisdom teeth removal can take time and is different for everyone. Following these tips and your oral surgeon’s postoperative instructions can improve your chance of making a fast and full recovery.
